Affordable nightly stays in Irkutsk

Many visitors to Irkutsk face the same question: pick a hotel in the historic center, near Karla Marksa Street and the Angara embankment, or stay near the airport on Shiryamova Street so that in the morning you can hop into a transfer and head straight to Listvyanka?

Irkutsk is a compact city. IKT Airport sits right inside the city limits. It is about 5–6 km to Gagarin Boulevard, and roughly 70 km to Listvyanka along the Baikal Highway — the drive takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.

If your flight lands late and you set off for Baikal the next morning, staying near the airport saves you an hour of sleep and spares you the drive across town.

At 6 Shiryamova Street you will find Vozdushnaya Gavan, a three-star hotel with nightly rates from 4,800 ₽. It is a one-minute walk to the terminal.

A quieter and more comfortable option is Baikal Forest Hotel. This four-star hotel starts at 7,200 ₽ per night and stands on Sovetskaya Street. From here it is a 5–10 minute drive to the airport, without the noise of the terminal zone.

If your Irkutsk visit lasts longer than a day and you want to explore the city, consider hotels in the center. Paying a little more is almost always worth it. From here it is an easy walk to Gagarin Boulevard and the Angara embankment, to the Epiphany Cathedral and the Music Theater. The most interesting hotels in the city are also here.

Boutique hotels in the very center

Irkutsk cannot boast an abundance of intimate boutique hotels, but a few noteworthy ones are clustered downtown.

At 13B Karla Marksa Street — about a kilometer from the Church of the Savior — stands the 4-star boutique hotel SAYEN. The hotel has its own spa, and prices start at 20,000 ₽ per night.

Another option is the Amurskiy hotel at 34 Lenina Street. It sits a step away from Kirov Square. This is the only officially 5-star hotel in Irkutsk, with prices from 17,900 ₽.

The 130th Quarter: sleep right at the entrance to the sloboda

The 130th Quarter is the pedestrian Irkutsk Sloboda. It opened in 2011 to mark the city's 350th anniversary. The sloboda preserves reconstructed 19th-century wooden buildings, and every tourist drops by. Two hotels sit at the entrance from the Jerusalem Hill side.

At 10 Sedova Street you will find the Kupecheskiy Dvor hotel. It has 4 stars, and rates start at 8,200 ₽.

Next door — at 12 Sedova Street — is the Butik-Otel Marusya. It has 3 stars, with prices from 7,850 ₽.

From either hotel it takes three minutes to reach the sloboda's restaurants and ten minutes to reach the embankment.

In Irkutsk you can save money even in the center — there is no need to settle on the outskirts. Start your search in the Pravoberezhny District. Real savings begin right in the heart of the city.

Next to the tourist core there is an affordable option — the Irkutskiy Kedr guesthouse at 14 Rossiyskaya Street. A night here costs from 1,790 ₽, and it is about 400–600 meters to Karla Marksa Street. It is a good alternative to a hostel, since you get your own room.

If you are specifically looking for a hotel rather than a guesthouse, take a look at Dom Evropy at 21 Engelsa Street. This three-star hotel charges from 2,856 ₽ per night. It is about 2 km, or a 25-minute walk, to the Irkutsk Sloboda.

In the next block over, at 7 Proletarskaya, is the "Irkut" hotel. It is a two-star property with rates from 3,350 ₽ per night. It suits travelers who simply need to spend the night before an early morning departure to Olkhon. The room has a bed and a shower.
