Cottage "Verizhitsa" is located on the riverbank surrounded by century-old firs and pines, 15 minutes from the city of Tikhvin and 2.5 hours by car from St. Petersburg. Cozy cottages of various categories and capacities are offered for accommodation. Each cottage is equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay: comfortable beds, a set of furniture, some cottages are equipped with a living area. It offers free Wi-Fi, a sauna, a restaurant and free private parking. WHY ARE WE CALLED “VERIZICA” The word ""verizhitsa"" comes from the Old Russian word "verizhye", which means a thin, elegant piece of jewelry consisting of links in the form of a chain or necklace. This word has ancient roots and is associated with the traditional jewelry worn by people in Russia. It can be made of precious metals, precious stones or other materials. Chains can be worn as everyday jewelry, as well as luxury jewelry for special occasions. This is a versatile piece of jewelry that emphasizes femininity and elegance! Thus, this name preserves the memory of the once famous Tikhvin Waterway (planned back under Peter the Great), on which 49 locks were located. These wooden structures were strung on the riverbed like precious stones on a string necklace. The cozy cottage complex "Verizhitsa" is located near one of such engineering masterpieces of the 19th century — the Smolensk Lock. 40 THE HISTORY OF THE COMPLEX'S CREATION In 1383, a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary appeared on the banks of the Tikhvinka River, painted according to legend by the Evangelist Luke himself. Since that moment (14th century) Tikhvin has been the center of Orthodoxy in the North-West of Russia. During the Great Patriotic War, the Fascist invaders took the icon to Pskov, then the icon ended up in Riga, Libava, Yablontsy, the American occupation zone in Germany, from where Bishop John (Harklavs) took it to Chicago (USA). In 1995, the ensemble of the Tikhvin Assumption Monastery was transferred to the church, and the Assumption Cathedral was restored and consecrated. In 2004, the icon was returned to Tikhvin. By the time the icon returned in 2004, the "Verizhitsa" cottage complex was opened. When booking up to two people, a second room is provided for an additional fee at the reception desk or on the official website, in the amount of 1,500 rubles per day.
