No. The top of the market is two four-star hotels: one on Chkalova Street next to the historic centre, the other on Prospekt Respubliki. There is also a three-star hotel on Varshavskoye Shosse, near the edge of town. Everything else is apartments, unrated hotels, a hostel by the station, guest houses and country estates.

The cheapest format is a bed in the hostel by the station, followed by apartments in the residential districts and small unrated hotels. Most chain apartments in the centre sit at roughly the same level whatever the address, while the four-star hotels and the branded three-star by the highway are the priciest. Check the cards for current prices: they shift with the season and rise around long weekends.

An apartment gives you a kitchen, a kettle and a washing machine, but no front desk: check-in is usually self-service with a code. If you arrive on a night train or want someone on site at three in the morning, take a hotel. If you cook for yourself, travel with children or stay several days, apartments win.

If the forest is the only reason for the trip, then yes: it is a few minutes' walk from Kamenyuki to the national park entrance, and tours are easier to book for the morning. If the fortress, pedestrian Sovetskaya and the city museums are also on your list, it makes more sense to base yourself in Brest and set aside a separate day for the pushcha, travel time included.

In the centre, no: from the blocks around Sovetskaya you can walk to the fortress, the station, the museums and the restaurants in half an hour at most. A car pays off elsewhere: for Belovezhskaya Pushcha, for the lakeside holiday bases, or for the Terespol crossing early in the morning.
