Cheap hotels in Kaluga

The old core of the city winds around Kirova, Teatralnaya and Suvorova streets, plus the square by the Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics. From here it's a ten-minute unhurried walk to the Stone Bridge — the oldest stone viaduct in Russia, built across the Berezuysky Ravine in 1777–1780. The Tsiolkovsky House-Museum on the street of the same name is a twenty-minute walk. If you're coming for the city itself, look for a hotel in this district.

• Hotel na Dvoryanskoy — a quiet 2-star hotel at 29 Suvorova Street, from 3,100 ₽. Suits a solo trip. There's no restaurant and no extra markups.
• Roket — a hostel at 39 Georgievskaya Street, from 1,000 ₽ per bed. Kirova Street is a five-minute walk away. It's the cheapest option in the center.

Many visitors to Kaluga spend hardly any time in the city itself. They come for the Nikola-Lenivets art park in Dzerzhinsky District or the Etnomir cultural-educational center near the village of Petrovo in Borovsky District. It's 70–90 km from Kaluga to these places. So it's more convenient to stay right on site or nearby, instead of losing three hours a day on the round trip.

• Eco-Club Golitsyno — a resort in Semyonovka, about 30 km from central Kaluga, from 8,400 ₽. A good pick if you want to combine a city visit with time outdoors.

The Right Bank of the Oka is the southeastern exit from Kaluga along Tulskoye Shosse (R-132 Kaluga — Tula — Ryazan), which leads to Tula and then joins the M-2 Crimea highway. From here it's convenient to reach Kaluga's two industrial parks: Rosva and Grabtsevo. Rosva is 23 km southwest of the city, next to the M-3 Ukraina, while Grabtsevo lies to the northeast by the airport. Warehouses and meeting venues are here too. It's easy to head out to a factory or onto the highway each morning without fighting through the one-way streets of the center.

• Kaluga Plaza — a 4-star business hotel at 2nd Tulsky Lane, 1. Rooms from 5,350 ₽ per night. It has conference rooms, a restaurant and parking — everything you need on a business trip.
• SportHotel Kaluzhniki — a hotel at 59 Tulskoye Shosse, from 5,500 ₽. Aimed at sports-event guests, with a gym and a sauna. It also works for business travelers if staying downtown isn't essential.

If you're traveling with a child or planning to stay in Kaluga for several nights, an apartment is almost always a better deal than a 3-star hotel. For 3,250–4,550 ₽ you get a flat with a washing machine and a kitchen instead of a single hotel room.

Apartments are spread around the city: on Pukhova and Proletarskaya — in the Severny District; on Tulskaya — in the historic center; on Khrustalnaya — in the Zhdamirovo neighborhood.
