The historic center on the left bank is compact: you can walk from the Paraskeva Pyatnitsa Chapel on Karaulnaya Hill down to Theater Square, and from there Prospekt Mira and Karl Marx Street lead you to the Yenisei embankment. Restaurants, museums and concert venues are concentrated here as well, which is why people pick the center when they come to explore rather than to work. The choice of places to stay is the widest in the city — from modest rooms to hotels with river views. A car downtown is more burden than help: almost everything is within a half-hour walk, and parking near the embankment takes some hunting.

Krasnoyarsk has exactly one five-star property — a small townhouse hotel on Bograda Street, in a quiet block a couple of minutes from the center. Everything else at the top end is four stars: an international chain near Karl Marx Street and several intimate hotels on the old streets between Ady Lebedevoy and Krasnoy Armii. People book this level for important negotiations, family celebrations and trips where quiet and service matter as much as being close to the main avenue. Four stars is the largest category in the city, so there are noticeably more decent options than it looks like at first glance.

Vzlyotka grew up on the site of the old city airfield and became Krasnoyarsk's business district: offices, congress venues, an exhibition center and shopping galleries are clustered around Molokova, Aviatorov and Partizana Zheleznyaka streets. Staying here makes sense specifically for a work trip — you don't have to cross the bridges every morning to reach partners and meeting rooms, and the road to the Yemelyanovo highway runs right past, with no loop through the center. There is exactly one drawback: there isn't much to do on foot in the evening, so for a walk you'll have to head to the left-bank embankment.

People choose a place with a kitchen in Krasnoyarsk for a long assignment, a shift changeover or a family trip: when you need a washing machine, a fridge and a desk for your laptop, an ordinary room gets cramped fast. Aparthotels are concentrated in two areas — along Prospekt Mira and Lenina Street downtown, and next to the business blocks of Vzlyotka. The longer the stay, the more this format wins out over a hotel: you can cook breakfast and dinner at home and save the restaurants for the weekend.

For the rock pillars and the cable car you head to the right bank: the entrance to the national park runs through the settlement of Bazaikha, and the Bobrovy Log fun park stands literally ten minutes from there — you really can fit both into one day. In winter the cable car works as a ski lift and in summer as a sightseeing ride, so the season here lasts all year. The closest stays to the lift are on Bazayskaya Street: five minutes on foot to the start, and the morning queue for the cable car is not your problem. If sleeping right by the slope isn't essential, hotels in the Sverdlovsky district on Sudostroitelnaya and 60 let Oktyabrya will do — from there the park entrance is 15–20 minutes by bus or taxi.

Yemelyanovo sits about 27 km from the center, and with a departure before dawn or a landing at night the drive into town and back eats up the whole night. Krasnoyarsk runs four hours ahead of Moscow, so a flight from European Russia lands in the morning local time, when by your body clock it is still the dead of night — a room by the terminal with early check-in saves the first day of the trip. There is a hotel right at the airport that checks guests in at practically any hour, while the village of Yemelyanovo and the roadside have simpler options a few minutes by taxi from the check-in desk. When choosing, look at the 24-hour front desk and the transfer rather than the stars — at four in the morning that matters more than the interior.

The city's most affordable tier is two-star hotels and hostels, and they don't sit out on the outskirts: cheap addresses can be found on Kachinskaya and Ady Lebedevoy, a twenty-minute walk from Prospekt Mira, and on Vzlyotnaya by the business blocks. It's a sensible choice for a short visit, when the room is only for sleeping and the day is filled with museums, meetings or a trip to the right bank. Check the distance to the nearest stop: transport in Krasnoyarsk runs well, and an extra kilometer from the center barely changes your travel time but changes the bill a great deal.

For the weekend locals leave the city — for the hydroelectric dam, for Divnogorsk and further out to the pine-covered shores of the "Krasnoyarsk Sea," as the reservoir is called here. The drive to Divnogorsk takes about an hour and the drive to the bays on the reservoir roughly an hour and a half, so staying overnight makes more sense than a day trip. Out-of-town options are cottages and small lodges with a banya, a barbecue area and pine forest all around, and in winter a ski slope near Divnogorsk joins the list. You need a car almost everywhere: buses to the villages are infrequent and don't run at the hours that suit you.
