This quarter has the widest choice of accommodation in the city — from a simple three-star room to a waterfront apartment looking out over the river. It suits first-time visitors who want to see the city on foot, without a car or taxis.

Rybinsk has just two four-star hotels, and the choice between them comes down to location rather than stars. One is a small boutique hotel on the corner of the Volga Embankment, steps from the water, Cathedral Square and the barge hauler monument, with a sauna and a spa area. The other stands in the Zavolzhye part of town, five kilometers and one bridge across the Volga from the historic center, but comes with a conference hall and a restaurant with live music. There are no five-star hotels in the city — for that level of service travelers go to Yaroslavl.

Traveling with children or in a group of two to four, most people find an apartment or an aparthotel more practical in Rybinsk than a hotel room: a private kitchen, a washing machine and a second room matter more here than a lobby and breakfast. Options like these sit both a couple of minutes from Krestovaya Street and in buildings overlooking the Volga, and some of them run as aparthotels, with hotel service on site. During the day the Puppet Theater, the Grain Exchange and interactive exhibits are close by; in the evening you cook at home instead of hunting for a café that is still open.

The most affordable places in town are guest houses and plain apartments set back from the waterfront: the Volga is about a ten-minute walk away, and you pay noticeably less than for a river view. The choice here is mostly residential — apartments in ordinary buildings on Babushkina and Voroshilova streets, with parking at the door and shops downstairs. People book these for negotiations, a conference or a working week, when a good night's sleep and a quick trip to the meeting matter more than a morning walk along the embankment.

Demino is a cross-country skiing center twenty kilometers from Rybinsk, where competitors and spectators gather in February and March for the Demino Ski Marathon, part of the Russialoppet series. Accommodation here stands right by the trails: from a large building at the resort with full facilities to a simple hotel that usually takes in training camps. In summer the place works as a recreation base with equipment rental, and rooms for race days are taken well ahead — book far in advance.

If the point of the trip is forest, water and quiet rather than museums, look toward the outskirts: park hotels in the pine woods and resorts on the shore of the Rybinsk Reservoir, which locals call the Rybinsk Sea. In summer that means a beach, fishing, barbecues and boats passing outside the window; in the off-season, a banya and a couple of days away from the tourist trail. A car is all but essential here — public transport takes a long time, but you can reach the city in half an hour whenever you want to.
