The elevator in the house of merchant G.G. Eliseev is considered the first elevator in St. Petersburg (1891). Initially, the lifting mechanism worked on steam. In Soviet times (around the 1960s), the lifting mechanism was replaced with an electric one and the cabin was updated. In August 2024, the elevator cabin is once again changed to a new one and from the pre-revolutionary antiquity, only a round shaft with cast-iron frames and flowers can be seen.
