The Central District is the city's historic core and the easiest address for a first visit: Amur Cliff, the embankment and the city ponds are all within walking distance, while Muravyov-Amursky Street lines up the museums, restaurants and shops. The regional government, banks and corporate offices sit here too, so the district works equally well for tourists and for business travelers. Hotels here are mostly business class — with a restaurant, parking and breakfast — and a tram runs to the railway station in about twenty minutes.

Amur Cliff and its view over the river is the city's signature postcard, and anyone who came for the Amur itself should look for a place within walking distance of the embankment. In summer the river is open to navigation and boat trips run all day, in the evenings half the city strolls along the water, and in winter the embankment turns into a windswept but genuinely striking viewpoint. Khabarovsk's upper tier is concentrated in exactly this part of town: hotels with river views, spa areas and restaurants of their own.

Khabarovsk sits on the Trans-Siberian Railway: the ride from Vladivostok takes about twelve hours, from Moscow almost six days, and plenty of travelers stop in the city purely to change trains. Hotels by the station win on logistics rather than views — a few minutes on foot from the platform to the front desk, round-the-clock check-in, simple and straightforward rooms. This is also the most affordable cluster in the city, which makes it a practical base for a one-day work trip as well.

Novy is one of the largest airports in the Russian Far East, with flights to Moscow, Vladivostok, Irkutsk and China. Staying near the terminal makes sense when your flight leaves early: the seven-hour time difference with Moscow makes morning departures especially rough, and a taxi from the center at five in the morning costs more than the room itself. Accommodation is clustered in Aviagorodok and along Matveyevskoye Highway — a quarter of an hour to the terminal by car, and almost everywhere will arrange an early check-in.

Business life in the city is tied to the center: the regional government, industry forums and receptions for foreign partners all happen within a few blocks of each other. Khabarovsk never gathered the top-tier international chains, but it has a solid layer of business and congress hotels — halls for several hundred people, catering and the equipment for conferences with coffee breaks. Choose by scale: a meeting for four needs nothing more than a hotel with a meeting room, while a forum calls for a full congress center.

Platinum Arena and Dynamo Park with its city ponds are the second draw after the embankment: people come here for hockey, concerts and major sporting events, and walk through the park in between. Hotels around Dikopoltseva Street are convenient for exactly that — the arena is a short walk away, and Lenin Square is another ten to fifteen minutes on foot. A sensible compromise if the very center feels noisy and the residential districts feel too far out.

The cheapest way to spend a night is a bed in a hostel or a room in a small hotel; such places cluster along the main transport routes, by the railway station and on Karl Marx Street. Expect an honest minimum: a shared kitchen, a shower in the block or on the floor, a 24-hour front desk and luggage storage for your backpack. A fit for a Trans-Siberian stopover, a short work trip, or any journey where the room is only there for sleeping.

The city rents out almost more apartments by the night than it has hotel rooms, and for a stay of three days or longer that usually works out better value than a hotel. In the center you will find studios and one-bedroom flats in newer buildings on Amursky Boulevard, Gamarnika and Muravyov-Amursky — with a kitchen and a washing machine, and being able to cook for yourself saves noticeably in a Far Eastern city. Check how arrival works: the larger operators usually handle it contactlessly with a door code, which helps after a late-night landing.

Winter in Khabarovsk is the real thing: January can drop to around minus twenty, the wind comes off the river, and a sauna after a day outdoors stops being a luxury. Hotels with a banya complex, a pool or a spa are scattered across the city — some in the center, some in the residential districts, where rooms are larger and the surroundings quieter. In summer the same addresses help in a different way: after the humid Far Eastern heat, a pool is valued just as much as a steam room is in the cold.
