Cheap hotels in Murom

Murom is a city where everything is within reach. All four working monasteries and Oksky Park sit in the historic district above the Oka River, which is about a kilometer wide here. That means you can choose: stay in the center of the action and walk to the holy sites, or pick a more distant area to save money or get closer to the Ilya Muromets sites.

In the Center — Near the Monasteries and the Water Tower

The center of Murom covers Lenina, Sverdlova, Moskovskaya, and Sovetskaya streets. From the water tower it's a 5–15 minute walk to any of the monasteries or to the Oka embankment.

A few options in the center:

• Boutique Hotel Murom — the only full-scale 4-star hotel in the city. From 8,350 ₽ per night.

In Karacharovo — On the Western Edge, Where Ilya Muromets Lived

Karacharovo was folded into the city in the mid-20th century, but it still feels like a separate village. The Gushchin family cottage, where the bogatyr is said to have lived, and the holy spring are 2–3 km from the center. Too far on foot; about a 20-minute bus ride.

If you're traveling to explore the bylina sites, Velho is a convenient base. The hotel sits in Karacharovo, on Shkolnaya Street. It's the most expensive option in the city — from 14,400 ₽ per night.

In Yakimanskaya Sloboda and on Radiozavodskoye — The Cheapest Beds

Yakimanskaya Sloboda (in the north) and the blocks around Radiozavodskoye Highway (in the south) aren't tourist Murom anymore — they're residential areas, 3–4 km from the monasteries. People come here for the low rates:

• The Flora hostel in Yakimanskaya Sloboda has beds in a shared room from 875 ₽.
• On Radiozavodskoye Highway there's the "Yuzhny Dvorik" hostel (from 1,100 ₽) and apartments (from 2,500 ₽ per night).

The city center is a 10–15 minute ride away by bus or marshrutka.

Karacharovo is within city limits, but Sobolevo and Kovarditsy are not. You can't reach them without a car, but you get more quiet and more space.

• Lesavushka in the village of Sobolevo — 10 km from the center. From 7,500 ₽.
• "River Club" on Priokskaya — a good fit if you want to be closer to the Oka and the embankment.
• "Rioni" in the village of Kovarditsy.

The biggest surge of visitors comes on July 8 — the Day of Family, Love, and Fidelity. Murom is the official capital of this holiday, so pilgrims travel to the Holy Trinity Convent from across the country. Rooms in the center get booked two to three months ahead.

The other peak is the long May holidays. Warm weather and Radonitsa noticeably push up demand for lodging.

In the shoulder seasons and winter, the city is noticeably quieter and cheaper. The monasteries stay open year-round, and Murom in winter, above the snow-covered Oka, looks even more striking than in summer.
