From Plotinka to Vainer: the Walkable Center
The center of Yekaterinburg is compact — you can easily walk around it in a day.
Start at Plotinka: it was built in 1723 on larch piles that do not rot in water. The Historical Square stretches out beside it. Ten minutes on foot brings you to the Church on the Blood, which stands on the site of the Ipatiev House, and to the elegant neo-Gothic Sevastyanov House.
Walk along the Iset embankment toward the Yeltsin Center and the “Vysotsky” skyscraper. On the 52nd floor of the 188-meter tower there is an open observation deck with a full panorama of the city. You can end the walk on the pedestrian Vainer Street. Sculptures line it: “Friends,” “The Lovers,” a monument to Michael Jackson. They will lead you back to 1905 Square.
On the third day, it is worth heading out to the surrounding area:
- The “Europe — Asia” obelisk: 30–40 minutes along the Novo-Moskovsky highway.
- Ganina Yama: a monastery complex in a picturesque pine forest (30–40 minutes away).
- The Nevyansk leaning tower: about an hour and a half by suburban train.

When to Go: June and Ural Music Night

June is the time of festivals. On one of the Fridays of the month, Ural Music Night takes place — a music festival with a hundred free stages in the city center. On the night of June 19–20, 2026, the festival drew 450,000 spectators. It is a great time for walks along the embankment and paddle-boat rides on the pond.
July is peak season: the daytime air warms up to +23 °C, and daylight stretches into the late evening. In mid-July, the Tsar’s Days are held, with a religious procession from the Church on the Blood to Ganina Yama. Rooms for these dates should be booked in advance — they sell out very quickly.
May and September are also a good fit for a visit: temperatures stay at a comfortable +15…+17 °C. This is the best time to wander the empty streets of the Literary Quarter without the crowds or the heat.
