For a first visit, the center: the area around Revolution Square, the Uvod embankment and Sheremetevsky Avenue. From there the constructivist railway station, the museums and the avant-garde buildings on Lenin Avenue are all within walking distance. If you need a kitchen and a lower price, look at apartments in Novaya Ilyinka or the Moskovsky district — the center is 15–20 minutes away by bus.

By bus from the bus station: about an hour and a half to Plyos, a little over an hour to Palekh and half an hour to Shuya. The timetable works well for a day trip, so it is better value to sleep in Ivanovo: Plyos and Palekh have few rooms, and in season they are noticeably more expensive.
