The walkable core of the village is the triangle formed by Kulikova, Chapaeva and Gorkogo streets: a couple of minutes from here to the pier, the fish market and the departure points for sightseeing boats — and hovercraft in winter. This is also where the minibus from Irkutsk arrives, so the area works well if you're travelling without a car. The trade-off is the bustle: on weekends the waterfront and the parking lot by the market fill up with people and cars.

Gornaya Street climbs the slope above the village, and the balconies and verandas here look out over the source of the Angara and Shaman Rock. It's a five-to-ten-minute walk down to the pier, and evenings are noticeably quieter than on the waterfront below. A good pick if you're here for the panorama and don't mind the climb back up each time.

Chapaeva Street runs inland from the shore up the valley, and the farther along it you go, the calmer things get: instead of the waterfront, you get yards with banyas, barbecue grills and gardens. The pier and the fish market are still an easy walk away, and there's room to park. A solid choice for a family or a group that wants a base for day trips rather than a hotel corridor.

The eastern edge of the village revolves around the cable car's lower station: the ride up to the viewpoint at Chersky Rock takes just a few minutes, and the top opens onto a panorama of the source of the Angara and Shaman Rock. The centre and the pier are twenty to thirty minutes on foot, or five by taxi. Choose this area if you plan to head up the mountain every morning and set off hiking rather than linger by the market.

Gudina is the part of Listvyanka farthest from the pier, and the places to stay here are small-scale: private houses with banyas, panoramic verandas and a barbecue in the yard instead of a reception desk. This is also where you'll usually find the most affordable options in the village. The cable car is a short walk away, while getting to the centre is easier by taxi than on foot along the road.

A kilometre and a half along the shore from the pier stands the Baikal Museum, and beyond it the road leads to the source of the Angara and Shaman Rock. Accommodation here sits right by the water and away from the crowds at the market, but you'll have to head back to the centre for cafés, boat trips and souvenirs. Suits those with a car, or anyone happy to catch the minibus towards Irkutsk.

Nikola is a separate village a few kilometres from the centre of Listvyanka, right at the source of the Angara and the first place you reach coming from Irkutsk. The hotels here are more substantial, with restaurants, banyas and their own parking, and in the evening you won't hear the waterfront. It makes sense if you have a car: walking along the Baikal Highway isn't an option — there's no pavement.

From mid-January to the end of March Baikal freezes over by the village, ice hummocks rise along the shore, and hovercraft set out from the port. After a day on the ice and a trip up the cable car, what matters most is coming back to somewhere with a banya or a pool, a restaurant and a place to park: such complexes stand both in the village itself and out on the Baikal Highway by the ski slope. Bring warm boots with spikes and a windproof layer — it's markedly colder on the ice and at the viewpoint than down below.
