The center of Ryazan is fairly compact. The Kremlin rises on a hill above the Trubezh River, with Kremlin Park, Sobornaya Street and the embankment at its base. Two blocks away begins Mayakovsky Street, where most of the city's hotels and apart-hotels are concentrated.

If you're planning a one- or two-night trip — a walk through the historic center, the Yesenin estate museum in Konstantinovo, and the Airborne Forces Museum — pick a hotel within 500–800 meters of Sobornaya Square. That way you won't need a car or a taxi.

About 20–25 kilometers north of the city, Meshchera begins. You'll find a pine forest, a bend of the Oka, the 14th-century Solotchinsky Monastery, and the house-museum of Konstantin Paustovsky. Meshchera works as a day trip or as the main reason for visiting Ryazan Oblast.

In Solotcha itself and in the surrounding villages — Shumash and Varskie — there are accommodation formats you won't find in the city: sanatoriums, park hotels and waterfront resorts. Guests typically book for 3–5 nights and drive into the city during the day to see the kremlin.
