The historic center fits inside the triangle of Svetlanskaya, Semyonovskaya and Uborevicha — the one part of town where "everything within walking distance" genuinely holds true: the funicular up to Eagle's Nest, the GUM department store, the viewpoints above the Golden Bridge, and the railway and marine terminals a few blocks away. It's a convenient base for a first look at the city without depending on traffic over the hills, especially if you have arrived on the Trans-Siberian. Just keep in mind that the bay view here depends heavily on the floor and which side of the building you are on — a room with windows facing the Golden Horn is worth requesting separately when you book.

Sportivnaya Embankment is Vladivostok's promenade front: a city beach right in the center, a Ferris wheel, seafood kiosks and the open water of Amur Bay. Rooms by the water cost more than those a couple of blocks further up the hill, but the sea is two minutes away on foot and Svetlanskaya about ten. This is the choice for a first trip, when you want the bay under your windows and an evening walk that starts at the front door.

Egersheld occupies the narrow Shkota Peninsula stretching out toward Tokarevsky Lighthouse: open Amur Bay on one side, the cranes and ships of the Golden Horn on the other. It is quieter here than in the center, with plenty of view windows and the sunsets that draw half the city out to the spit by the lighthouse. Svetlanskaya is a quarter of an hour away by car, but the whole district hangs off a single road, so allow extra time at rush hour.

The most affordable way to sleep in the center is a bunk or a capsule around Millionka, a few hundred meters from the funicular and Svetlanskaya. The format earns its keep on stopovers, on trips of a couple of nights, and whenever the day is spent outdoors anyway and the room is only for sleeping. Do not expect quiet or views, but almost everything people come to Vladivostok for is reachable on foot.

Apartments are the largest segment of the city's market: studios and flats are let out both in the older buildings on Svetlanskaya and in the new towers near Tigrovaya and Naberezhnaya. The format wins if you are traveling as a group or staying longer than three days — your own kitchen settles the breakfast question, and you can cook the crab and scallops from the market yourself. Check-in is usually handled by the owners rather than a front desk, so confirm your arrival time and how you will collect the keys in advance.

Vladivostok runs on business travel all year round — the port, ship repair, the universities and the Eastern Economic Forum each autumn — so hotels with conference rooms, early breakfasts and arranged transfers are concentrated in the center and along Partizansky Avenue. That location saves what matters most: the business quarters and the railway station are close by, and there is a direct route out to Russky Island and the airport. The one complication is September: during the Forum, rooms in the center and on Russky are taken months ahead, so plan autumn trips well in advance.

Pervaya Rechka and Vtoraya Rechka are dense residential districts along Partizansky and Okeansky avenues, where hotels of the same star rating cost noticeably less than their downtown equivalents. The railway station and Svetlanskaya are ten to fifteen minutes away by car, there are markets, supermarkets and intercity bus stops nearby, and parking is far easier than in the historic quarters. A sensible option for a long stay or a work trip, when budget and logistics matter more than the view from the window.

Sedanka lies fifteen to seventeen kilometers from the center: pine trees, dacha slopes, sanatorium air and easy access to Amur Bay. The highway makes trips into town simple, but most people come here to stay put — the majority of the hotels have their own grounds, a sauna, a restaurant and barbecue areas. This direction works well for families with children and for anyone who came for the sea, the greenery and the quiet rather than the museums.

The swimming season in Primorye is short: the water stays genuinely warm through July and August, and in those weeks places by the sea go faster and cost more than city ones. The main destinations are Lazurnaya Bay — better known as Shamora — with its fine golden sand and pleasure boats, the closer Patrokl Bay almost within the city limits, and the bays along the road to Artyom. Book at least a couple of weeks ahead and plan on having a car: public transport to the beaches is infrequent and slow.

The Knevichi terminal sits about forty-five kilometers from the center, and with an early departure the drive out of town turns into a quest of its own: the airport express takes around an hour, while a taxi depends on the morning traffic heading out. A night in Artyom settles the question — the airport is ten to twenty minutes away and the rooms are noticeably cheaper than in the city. The same trick helps on arrival with a late-night flight, when heading into Vladivostok is both too late and pointless.
