Petrovskaya Embankment and the quiet center: a one-day walking route
Voronezh has no metro, but that’s actually a plus: the historic center is perfect for walking. The whole route runs along the right bank.
- Revolution Avenue. The city’s main artery. Nineteenth-century buildings stand alongside examples of 1920s–1930s constructivist architecture.
- Karl Marx Street. Turn off the avenue to walk down this pedestrian zone. Along the way you’ll see the Lutheran Kirche and the unusual “accordion house.” Slightly off to the side stands the monument to the Kitten from Lizyukov Street.
- Admiralteyskaya Square. The final stop on the route. Here you’ll find the 28-meter Rostral Column, the Petrovskaya Embankment, and the legendary museum ship “Goto Predestinatsia.”
Evenings and dining
In the evening you can catch a performance at the Opera and Ballet Theater or at the Koltsov Academic Drama Theater. For dinner, we recommend the restaurant “15/86” (the name refers to the year Voronezh was founded) or the gastropub “Chornaya Reka.” The menu features dishes made from Voronezh farm produce.

- Divnogorye (80 km from the city): the main draws are the museum reserve with the “Bolshie Divy” chalk pillars and the ancient cave churches.
- Ramon (40 km from the city): an ideal trip for history lovers. The main attraction is the Oldenburg Palace Complex.
- Zadonsk (85 km, Lipetsk Oblast): a pilgrimage center with monasteries and holy springs. Since hotel options here are limited, it’s most convenient to stay in Voronezh and make Zadonsk a day trip.
Tip: if you’re planning a trip for early June, try to catch the Platonov International Arts Festival. Don’t miss the concert “World Music at Bely Kolodets,” held against the backdrop of chalk hills.

The Kitten from Lizyukov Street monument does call for a drive, but that is one short trip.
