Yeysk
Yeysk is a place where the sea begins right at your feet. Thanks to the shallow waters of the Taganrog Gulf, the water here warms up to a comfortable +23 °C by the end of May. People come here for different kinds of holidays: families come for the gently sloping sandy beaches, kiters come for the perfect wind on the Yeysk Spit, and those looking to improve their health head to Lake Khanskoye, famous for its therapeutic muds. Add to that the cozy atmosphere of a southern town, walks along the embankment, a dolphinarium and Russia's only monument to the vareniki dumpling — and you'll have a full picture of the local attractions.
The Yeysk Spit: spots for every wind
The Yeysk Spit is a 3-kilometer strip of land that splits the water in two: on one side the Taganrog Gulf rolls in, on the other stretches the mirror-smooth surface of the Yeysk Liman.
- Beaches for every taste: Kamenka, Molodyozhny and Central Beach let you pick conditions to suit the weather. Families with children prefer the calm waters of the liman, while windsurfers head for the windy sections of the gulf.
- For the pros: if you want serious riding, head to the Dolzhanskaya Spit (40 km from town). Waiting for you there are the open Sea of Azov, professional schools and equipment rental.
- Safety: the sea here is very shallow — where adults are already swimming, a three-year-old will be standing knee-deep.
Thanks to steady winds, the kite season here runs from spring to autumn. That said, some groups of athletes come here in the off-season too.
When to go and what to do in town
The beach season in Yeysk runs from early June to mid-September. During this time it’s warm and comfortable: daytime temperatures climb to +27…+30 °C, and at night they drop to +20…+22 °C.
If you prefer a quiet holiday without the crowds and more affordable prices, choose the shoulder months — May or September. Temperatures at this time hold steady at +21…+24 °C: you can already (or still) swim, there are fewer tourists, and accommodation is cheaper.
What to see and where to walk
- Taganrogskaya Embankment: the place for an evening stroll. It’s lined with cafés serving dishes made from fresh Azov fish.
- Ivan Poddubny Park: the town’s popular green space, where the grave of the famous wrestler is located.
- Lake Khanskoye: if you want to improve your health, head to Lake Khanskoye (55 km from Yeysk). It’s a good option for a day trip to try the therapeutic muds.

How to get there
By train: in summer a direct train runs from Moscow to Yeysk from the Kievsky Railway Station. During the rest of the year you can get there with a transfer at Starominskaya station.
By plane: Platov Airport (Rostov-on-Don) is currently closed, so the nearest major air hub is Sochi. When Platov resumes operations, it will once again be the most convenient option: it is about 220–230 km from Yeysk (roughly a 3-hour transfer).

The best time to go is from mid-June to the end of August. During this period the sea warms up to +25…+26 °C, and the shallow waters of the Taganrog Gulf are safe even for toddlers. In July and August the resort can get crowded. If you want to avoid the crush, come in early June or in September — it will be calmer then.
In summer — yes. From July the water in the lake starts to evaporate, and the therapeutic muds are exposed on the shore. You can use them free of charge right by the water. If you want to take a full course of treatment, head to the sanatoriums of the Yeysk district, which operate year-round.
You can learn kiting on the Yeysk Spit, where there are schools for beginners. Experienced athletes usually head to the Dolzhanskaya Spit, about 40 km from town. There you'll find the open Sea of Azov, steady winds and better-developed equipment rental.
There are several options.
In summer a direct train runs from Kievsky Railway Station. The journey takes about 32 hours (roughly 1 day and 8 hours).
Rostov-on-Don Airport (Platov) has been closed to scheduled flights since February 2022 and as of 2026 has not yet resumed operations — this route is temporarily unavailable.
Another option is the bus from Salaryevo bus station. The trip takes about 16 hours.
