Nightly guesthouse stays in Gelendzhik

Gelendzhik Bay is a wide inlet squeezed between two capes: Tolsty in the south and Tonky in the north. A long promenade runs along the central waterfront, lined with restaurants, water parks and the lower station of the Olimp cable car. The southern Tolsty Cape offers a pine park, a lighthouse and quiet villas. On the northern Tonky Cape you'll find older low-rise blocks and calm courtyards. Beyond the city limits sit a string of satellite villages, each with its own beach: Kabardinka, Divnomorskoe and Vozrozhdenie. Which side of the bay you pick will directly affect both the cost and the mood of your trip.

The center by the promenade: Sovetskaya and Gelendzhiksky Avenue

This is for travellers who want the sea right at the doorstep — step out of your room and you're already on the shore. Within a kilometre you'll find the main promenade, the Begemot water park, the lower station of the Olimp cable car, plenty of cafés, and the noisy energy of summer evenings. In July and August demand here is enormous. Book your seaside stay well in advance.

• Orion — a 3-star hotel on Sovetskaya Street, just 100 metres from the promenade. Rates from 8,500 ₽ per night.
• Bellagio — the most affordable 4-star option near the center. Rates from 10,620 ₽.
• Mari — a 3-star property on quiet Sadovaya Street, 200 metres from the sea. Rates from 11,500 ₽.

Tolsty Cape, Magnolia and Parus: the premium pine side

The southern side of the bay has a pine park, a 19th-century lighthouse, and the quiet residential pockets of Magnolia and Parus filled with expensive villas. It's calmer here than in the center. The area sits a little further from the main promenade, but it makes up for that with proximity to the Safari Park and the Olimp cable car. People come here with family or simply to step away from the crowds while still staying inside the city.

Tonky Cape — Leselidze and Vishnyovaya: quieter and cheaper than the center

This is the northern tip of the bay, closer to the airport. Here lies the older part of Gelendzhik, around Leselidze, Vishnyovaya and Novorossiyskaya streets. You can walk to the central promenade in 15–20 minutes, or hop on a marshrutka and be there in a few. Because of the distance from the center, rates here are noticeably lower and the mood is calmer.

If you want a beach without the resort crowds, look at the villages 12–20 km out of town.

Kabardinka sits to the north along the Sukhumi Highway. The village has its own promenade and a sand-and-pebble beach.

Divnomorskoe stretches to the south. Expect a pebble beach and a pine grove right by the sea.

Vozrozhdenie lies along the M4-Don highway. The village sits a bit further from the shore, but rates here are usually lower than in central Gelendzhik, even for hotels in the same category.
