Krasnaya Street is Krasnodar's main axis, and most visitors stay along it — around Theater Square and the neighboring blocks of Mira and Chapaeva. From here it's a fifteen-minute walk to the Kuban embankment and to the market on Sennaya, and you don't have to go far for dinner — the restaurants are all within walking distance. On weekends Krasnaya closes to traffic and turns into the pedestrian "Krasnodar Arbat": staying right on it is on the noisy side, but the whole city is outside your window. The obvious choice if you've come for a couple of days to see Krasnodar, or if you're mixing work with walking the city.

The Kuban Embankment runs along the river a couple of blocks from the southern end of Krasnaya — noticeably quieter than the main street, yet still an easy walk from the center. People stay here for the water and the evening promenade: the embankment is where locals head out to stroll once the daytime heat lets up. Some of the hotels here keep a pool and a spa, and in Krasnodar in July that counts for more than it seems when you're booking in winter. A good option for a trip for two and for anyone coming to relax rather than work.

Business Krasnodar lives in the Prikubansky district: the Expograd Yug exhibition center on Zipovskaya, the congress venues on Gavrilova, the headquarters of major companies next door. The trip from the center takes anywhere from twenty-five to forty minutes, and in the morning rush hour it turns into a lottery — which is why a trade fair or a conference is a reason to stay right here. The hotels in this quarter are set up for business guests: their own conference halls, early breakfasts, parking for attendees. Walking out of the lobby and reaching the registration desk ten minutes later is exactly what people book here for.

The FC Krasnodar stadium and Galitsky Park laid out beside it have pulled the flow of visitors beyond the historic center — these days plenty of people come to the city for this part of town specifically. Rooms in the blocks between Krasnodar-1 station and the arena work out cheaper than in the center, and from there the park and the stadium are either a walk or a couple of stops on public transport. If you're coming for a particular matchday, book two or three weeks ahead: on ordinary weekdays the area is calm and has room to spare, but ahead of a home fixture the rooms nearby go within days. It also suits anyone coming for the park itself, with its terraces, amphitheater and waterfall.

Plenty of people spend the night in Krasnodar not for the city itself but to move on in the morning — to Sochi, Gelendzhik or Anapa. In that case the center works against you: an hour goes just on crossing town along Krasnaya and reaching the way out. It makes more sense to take a room on the southeastern edge, in the Pashkovsky district — the airport is close by, along with the exits onto the M-4 "Don" and the A-146. The hotels here are used to guests in transit: a 24-hour front desk, early check-outs, parking in the courtyard.

The cheapest night in Krasnodar is a hostel or a small guest house, and most of them sit on Severnaya and Perederiya: the center is a short walk away, though these blocks are no longer the city's shop window. The format suits anyone passing through for a single night: a bed in a shared room or a tiny private one, a shower, Wi-Fi — the day is spent outside anyway. In summer, when a heavy stream of travelers moves through Krasnodar toward the coast, the budget places go first, so it's better to book ahead.
