Frequently Asked Questions
The best option is the centre, between the railway station and the Marine Terminal. From there the port, Serebryakov Embankment and most of the port cluster's offices are within walking distance, and there are places to have dinner in the evening. If you are looking for a flat, check the apart-hotels on Lenina Avenue and Revolyutsii 1905 Goda Street — business travellers have traditionally stayed there.
The city itself has almost no resort beaches: the central waterfront is taken up by the port. You can swim on the Sudzhuk Spit — it is pebbly, but the water there is comparatively clean, because the pebble bottom works as a filter and the spit and lagoon separate the beach from the port's waters. For clear water and an easy entry into the sea, people drive to Kabardinka or Shirokaya Balka: both are around half an hour away, the first with resort facilities and family holidays, the second with quiet and nature.
The swimming season runs from early June to the end of September, and the best window is late August and the first half of September: the heat eases off, the sea is still warm and there are fewer holidaymakers. July and August are the peak, and hotels for those dates are taken well in advance. From October to March the nord-ost blows along the coast — the local bora, with strong gusts: swimming is out, but tours of the Hero City, the port and the wineries run year-round.
There are no five-star hotels in Novorossiysk — four stars is the highest category in the city and the surrounding district. You will find those on Serebryakov Embankment, in Aleksino and in Kabardinka; country estates and wine hotels carry no official stars, but their level of service often surpasses them.
The range is wide: the cheapest segment is simple hotels and hostels on the eastern edge of town, followed by three-star city hotels and daily rental flats, with four-star hotels on the embankment, spa properties and wine estates at the top. Prices rise noticeably in July and August and drop towards the shoulder season and winter; out of season the city works as a business destination, so weekday rates can be higher than weekend ones. Check the cards for current prices — they update by check-in date.
