Cheap hotels in downtown Pskov

Pskov is a compact city, and almost all of its landmark sights sit on the right bank of the Velikaya River, inside the triangle formed by the Krom, the Okolny Gorod and Zapskovye.

If you are planning to visit the Pskov Kremlin with Trinity Cathedral, stroll through Dovmontov Gorod and stop by the museum in the Pogankin Chambers, pick a place to stay in the Okolny Gorod. From Muzeyny Lane to Sovetskaya Street it is only a 5–10 minute walk to the Krom's towers.

Right in the center sits the historic Dvor Podznoeva complex. It is at Muzeyny Lane, 5 — a block from the kremlin. Rates start at 10,450 ₽ per night.

A little further along, at Profsoyuznaya, 4, you'll find the 4-star Pskov Boutique Hotel. Rooms here start at 12,300 ₽ per night. The hotel has quiet inner courtyards and its own restaurant.

There are more affordable options in the center as well. For example, Karkushin Dom at Vorovskogo Street, 7 takes guests from 5,500 ₽ per night, while Fligel Poshivalovoy at Pushkina Street, 14 offers stays from 4,600 ₽. Both are a ten-minute walk from the Krom and Oktyabrsky Avenue.

If you are travelling as a family or in a group and need a kitchen, take a look at the apartments in the center. On Lenina, Sovetskaya and Oktyabrsky Avenue you'll find studios and flats from 5,000 ₽ per night.

Across the Pskova River, on Leona Pozemskogo Street and Verkhne-Beregovaya, lies the most expensive part of the city. This is where Pskov's five-star hotels — Usadba Trubinskikh and Genrikh — are located. Both are part of the Kvartal Meyera complex. The city's largest and best-known spa hotel, Old Estate Hotel and Spa, stands here as well. Unlike Zapskovye, the Okolny Gorod has no spa hotels.

Usadba Trubinskikh is at Leona Pozemskogo Street, 20. These are restored 17th-century merchant chambers (the Trubinsky merchant family owned them from 1759 until their line died out in the 19th century), now run as a five-star hotel. Rooms start at 25,000 ₽ per night. To reach the Krom you cross the Trinity Bridge — a 12–15 minute walk.

Nearby, on the right bank of the Pskova River (Verkhne-Beregovaya, 4), where it meets the Velikaya, is Old Estate Hotel and Spa. Rates start at 22,000 ₽. The hotel has its own spa center, a swimming pool, banyas and views over the water. It's a fine pick for a weekend for two or for a spa programme. Pskov is often chosen as a base for day trips. Several landmark places sit within an hour's drive of the city.

Izborsk, with its fortress and the Slovenian Springs, lies about 30 km from town. Pechory, with the Pskov-Caves Monastery, is 50 km away, and the Pushkin Hills and Mikhailovskoye are 110 km out. All these spots can be visited in a single day. The intercity bus to Pechory takes about an hour, and to Izborsk 30–40 minutes.

Where to stay depends on the shape of your trip. If you plan to spend 2–3 nights in the region and want to see the Krom in the morning and head to Pechory in the afternoon, stay in Pskov — for example, in the Okolny Gorod.

If, on the other hand, you have set aside a day or two for the monastery and don't want to lose time on the road, it's better to stay in Pechory. There you can book a room at Gerberg House at Oktyabrskaya Square, 2. The hotel is a few minutes from the monastery walls. Rates start at 5,500 ₽ per night.

A third option is a countryside stay near Pskov. The Pleskov hotel sits in the village of Pechki, 25 km from the city, next to a forest. Rates start at 3,800 ₽. It's a good pick for travellers with a car who want some quiet after walking around the kremlin.
