Hotels in Sevastopol

The historic centre is a tight grid of blocks around Bolshaya Morskaya, Sovetskaya and Lomonosova streets: half an hour of unhurried walking takes in Grafskaya Pristan, Primorsky Boulevard and the Monument to the Sunken Ships, and the evening ends with dinner on Kornilov Embankment. There are no beaches here — swimming in the main bay is closed, and the nearest way down to the water, at Cape Khrustalny, is about fifteen minutes on foot. This is the choice if you came for history and museums and would rather not cross the city every day.

The city's hotel market is compact, but short-term rentals cover almost the entire centre. Apartments come with their own kitchen, a washing machine and a separate entrance — a format that wins out if you're staying several days and don't want every morning to revolve around a fixed breakfast time. They're often on the same blocks as the city hotels, only a night costs noticeably less.

Gagarinsky district means new builds, parks and the resort format where you arrive and never have to leave: pools, spa complexes and private landscaped beaches in the bays. Sevastopol's most resort-like properties are concentrated here, including the city's only five-star resort. Pick this part of town if the trip is about the sea and unwinding, with museums as an optional extra: the minibus into the centre takes about a quarter of an hour.

Omega is a narrow, sheltered bay with a gentle entry and calm water, which is why families with children and anyone who dislikes waves gravitate to it. The places to stay around it sit a few hundred metres from the water: you walk to the beach and take a minibus into the centre in the evening. Most are apartments with a kitchen and a balcony — convenient if the holiday is built around swimming rather than restaurants.

The ancient open-air museum city stands right on the shore, and staying within walking distance of it is a pleasure in itself: you can reach the excavations early in the morning, before the coach groups arrive. Around it are the quiet streets of Gagarinsky district, with swimming in nearby Streletskaya and Pesochnaya bays and only a short ride into the centre. A good compromise for anyone who wants both history and the sea in the same day.

Beyond Sevastopol Bay a different kind of life begins: wide sandy beaches, dunes, dacha lanes and quiet in place of the city's rhythm. The easiest way into the centre is by passenger ferry — the crossing from the Severnaya pier to Grafskaya Pristan takes only 5–7 minutes, with sailings from early morning until evening. Just keep an eye on the weather: in a storm the crossing is cancelled, and the detour via Inkerman adds around an hour to the journey, so it's worth checking the time of the last sailing in advance.

Balaklava lives a life of its own fifteen kilometres from the centre: a winding bay hemmed in by cliffs, rows of white yachts, the ruins of the Cembalo fortress above the water and the underground "Object 825 GTS" — a former submarine base carved into the mountain. Nobody comes here to swim off the shore: boats run to the Golden and Silver beaches, a trip of 10–15 minutes. Evenings are spent on Nazukin Embankment, and you head into Sevastopol only when you need to — about forty minutes by bus.

Fiolent is sheer cliffs, St George's Monastery and wild beaches reached by a long staircase of several hundred steps; neighbouring Kazachya Bay is gentler but just as uncrowded. There are no large hotels here at all — only guest houses and dacha plots — and rates are the lowest in the city. The one requirement is a car: public transport is infrequent and the drive into the centre takes around forty minutes.

The most affordable segment is dorm beds in hostels and rooms in guest houses with a shared kitchen and the feel of a private home. These usually sit a little further from the water — on the Korabelnaya side, in the dacha blocks or closer to the outskirts — but bus stops and the centre are not far off. Ideal if the trip is a sightseeing one and your room is just somewhere to sleep, leaving the budget for museums and boat trips.
