Choose hotels in central Tuapse, near the sea terminal and railway station, in Agoy and Dederkoy, sanatoriums in Nebug and quiet cottages in Inal.
Not in the city itself. Tuapse grew as a port and a railway hub, while the large resort properties were built in the sanatorium belt between Agoy, Nebug and Olginka. If the star rating matters to you, look at the district's villages or at neighbouring Sochi.
Probably not. The cargo port occupies most of the city shoreline, and the Central Beach is often criticised for the cleanliness of the water. If swimming is the point of the trip, it makes more sense to book in one of the villages from the start — that way you won't be paying for the journey to the sea every day.
Heading south to Dederkoy and Shepsi, suburban trains run from the railway station. For Agoy and the village of Yuzhny, take a bus or a minibus from the bus station on Marshala Zhukova Street, which is a 5–10 minute walk from the other terminals. Olginka and Nebug have no stations, so the bus is the only way there. The journey takes 20–40 minutes one way.
The swimming season runs from June to October, peaking in July and August — which is also when rates are at their highest. In late September and early October the sea is still warm and guest houses get noticeably cheaper. In winter, rooms at the district's sanatoriums cost far less than in summer, but swimming is no longer an option by then.
Choose a place within a 5–10 minute walk of the railway station or the sea terminal — they stand close to each other, and you'll comfortably make your train or commuter service in the morning. Sochi is about 80 km away by rail and 116 km by road.
