Lake Abrau itself is awkward for swimming: the water is fresh and the shore is stony. The closest place for a swim is the beach at the hamlet of Durso, a small cove between cliffs, and getting there from the village means crossing the ridge. The trip is short, but you'll need a car or a taxi: public transport on this route is infrequent.

The main season runs from May through October: the beach in Durso Bay is open and the Singing Fountains show plays on the lake in the evenings. In the off-season there are noticeably shorter tasting queues at the Wine House and the Art Park is quieter, but most outdoor programs are no longer held. If you're coming purely for the tour and the wine, autumn and early spring are a good time.

Practically speaking, yes. The winery, the beach, the riding club, the eco-trails and the neighboring hamlets are scattered in different directions, and buses between the villages don't run often. If you arrive without a car, choose a place in the village itself or right by the sea, and allow more time for getting around, or plan on taxis.

The range is wide. The most affordable are simple hotels and guesthouses in the villages around the settlement, where you can also find a dorm bed or a modest budget room. The priciest are the properties right by the lake and the country retreats with a pool and spa, and at the peak of the season, in July and August, prices on the coast are noticeably higher than in spring and autumn.
