Anything within a kilometre and a half of the confluence of the Volga and the Kotorosl will do — the Volzhskaya and Kotoroslnaya embankments and Pervomayskaya, Sverdlova and Pushkina streets. The peak falls in June to August, the Volga cruise season. Prices also rise noticeably over the New Year holidays and on City Day, celebrated on the last Saturday of May; for those dates rooms near the embankment are snapped up two or three months ahead. Two nights are enough for the city itself: the centre and the Strelka on the first day, the Zakotoroslnaya side and the Tolgsky Monastery on the second. If you also want to see Rostov, Uglich or Kostroma, allow 3–4 nights and set aside a day for each neighbouring town.
