The swimming season usually runs from late May to October, with the warmest water in July and August. September, the velvet season, is better suited to walking and sightseeing. In winter Adler is a convenient base for trips to Krasnaya Polyana: the coast stays around +5…+10 °C, while there is snow in the mountains an hour away on the Lastochka train.

If you want to save money and come back to the sea on your days off, stay in Adler: the Lastochka train covers the distance from the station to Rosa Khutor in 45–60 minutes. If skiing straight from the door to the lift matters more, choose Krasnaya Polyana — but accommodation there is noticeably more expensive.

The most convenient choice is a place near Adler railway station — on Lenina, Kirova or Energetikov streets: the sea is within walking distance and the terminal is close by.
