Adler
Adler is the southern district of Greater Sochi and, in effect, the gateway to the coast. Flights arrive at the local airport, trains from Moscow get here in a day, and the Imeretinsky embankment runs right up to the border crossing with Abkhazia. People come for the wide beaches and the Olympic legacy, and in winter — to reach the slopes of Rosa Khutor in 45 minutes on the Lastochka train.
The Imeretinsky Embankment and Olympic Park: How to Spend a Day
Old Adler, with its Central Embankment and Kurortny Gorodok, follows the familiar southern resort format: you’ll see Soviet-era sanatoriums, Zurab Tsereteli’s mosaic-clad “Korall,” and along a two-kilometer promenade cafes serve shashlik and churchkhela.
East of the mouth of the Mzymta a different city begins — the Imeretinsky Resort and Sirius. Here you’ll find wide pedestrian esplanades, new aparthotels, and Olympic Park with the Fisht Stadium, the Sochi Autodrom, and the Sochi Park theme park.
Imeretinsky Beach stretches for about 7 km — the longest strip of coast in Greater Sochi. You can rent bicycles and scooters throughout the area, but a car here is more of a hindrance than a help.
The closest accommodations to the park are aparthotels — for example, Marina Mall. Prices start from 4,950 ₽ per night. In total, Adler has more than 400 hotels — from guest houses on Chkalovskaya Street to Olympic-era apartments.
When to Go and How to Reach the Sea and the Mountains
Peak season is July and August: the air warms to +27–28 °C, the water stays around +27 °C, and the embankments grow crowded. Many travelers deliberately choose the “velvet” September: the water is still around +26 °C, prices drop, and the queues at the rides thin out.
May and October are well suited for excursions: the weather is warm but not stifling. This is a convenient time to visit the trout farm at Kazachy Brod, the Akhshtyr Cave, and the SkyPark suspension bridge.
From December through April, Adler turns into a lowland base for trips into the mountains. The Lastochka commuter train reaches Rosa Khutor in 45 minutes, and bus No. 535 runs via the airport in roughly an hour and a half.
For longer stays that combine mountain trips with seaside outings, travelers tend to choose aparthotels with kitchens — for example, Kiparis Resort by Stellar Hotels, Adler near the Imeretinsky Spit.

Frequently asked questions about Adler
The warmest water and steady heat come in July and August, but prices are at their highest then and there are very many holidaymakers. During the velvet season in September, the water temperature holds at +25–26 °C. There are noticeably fewer tourists, and prices become more reasonable.
The beaches in Adler are wider — Imeretinsky Beach alone stretches for 7 km. There is also more of the new Olympic infrastructure here, and the ski resorts are closer. Central Sochi has the Arboretum and Riviera Park, and its urban environment is more lively.
Yes, it is. The Lastochka commuter train runs from Adler to Rosa Khutor in roughly 45 minutes, and to Estosadok slightly faster. The Imeretinsky embankment adjoins the Psou border crossing. From there, marshrutkas will take you to Gagra and Pitsunda.
Families with children most often choose the Imeretinsky Resort and Sirius. There is a car-free pedestrian zone, with Sochi Park, water parks, and a dolphinarium nearby. Lodging in Old Adler is cheaper, but the area is more densely built up and the beaches are narrower.
