Kabardinka
This clean and well-kept village lies in the shadow of Greater Gelendzhik. The popular resort quickly wins hearts with its convenient location and easy transport links. Just 19 km from Gelendzhik and 21 km from Novorossiysk, Kabardinka offers a Mediterranean climate: mild winters and warm, comfortable summers. Sea breezes keep temperatures from rising above +30°C, and in winter they rarely drop below +5°C. Travellers are drawn by the clear sea, protected nature reserves, rocky gorges and fragrant juniper groves, where it is a pleasure to wander along winding trails.
The Old Park and the Bay Promenade
The Old Park was the brainchild of journalist Alexander Alekseev. He had no architectural training, but he did have remarkable persistence. On a plot of just over a hectare he brought together more than twenty themed zones: from an ancient temple to a medieval castle. Inside are five museums, an art gallery and a private 150-seat theatre. The park is open until 22:00 in summer and until 18:00 in winter. To take your time over every location, plan on at least half a day for your visit.
Evening life in Kabardinka centres on the promenade. It stretches along Tsemess Bay and pleases the eye with greenery, views of the Markotkh mountains and the lights of Novorossiysk on the horizon. Cafés, playgrounds and the main beaches all gather here. If you prefer quiet, head to the northern part of the coast: it is calmer there, and the entry into the water is just as gently sloping.
Weather and What to See
The sea in Kabardinka warms by mid-July to +25…26 °C, but this is also the month with the peak of tourist traffic and prices. In July the average daytime temperature is +28 °C, and at night +20 °C. In September the days are still warm — around +23 °C, and the water holds at +22 °C. By then the queues at the park are gone. The “velvet season” is a good time for adult travellers, once the noisy crowds of schoolchildren have gone home. October marks the end of the swimming season and the start of the wine season.
What can you fit into half a day?
In half a day from the village you can explore the “wine triangle”: Abrau-Dyurso with its famous lake, Myskhako and Chateau Pinot. Nature lovers should climb the Markotkh Ridge, blanketed in Pitsunda pines, or head to the Utrish nature reserve (70 km from the village) — its 11,000 hectares preserve unique relict forests.
Gelendzhik, with its cable car up Markotkh, is a half-hour bus ride away. It takes the same time to reach Novorossiysk.

The centre of the village is the most convenient: the Old Park, the Ellada water park, the oceanarium and the promenade are all ten to fifteen minutes away on foot. Look at the guest houses on Revolyutsionnaya and Proletarskaya. If you need a pool, gated grounds and a playground, take a resort hotel on Sukhumskoye Highway — those usually run a shuttle to the beach as well.
A guest house suits an independent trip: you pick your own cafés, walk to the beach and save on meals. A resort hotel is the opposite — the pool, the leisure area and the food are already included, and you reach the sea by car or shuttle. For a weekend for two a guest house makes more sense; for a week with children and no car, a resort hotel does.
The comfortable season runs from mid-June to the end of September. The water is warmest in August, and through the velvet season it holds up until roughly the twentieth of September. The best balance of weather and price comes in the first half of June and across all of September.
The lowest rates hold from October through May, but swimming is out of the question by then and some guest houses are closed for the winter. Within the warm season, the best value is the first half of June or the second half of September: the water is still warm, rooms cost less than at peak, and you can get into the Old Park and onto the promenade without queues.
